Automata and logics over finitely varying functions

چکیده
We extend some of the classical connections between automata and logic due to Büchi (1960) [5] and McNaughton and Papert (1971) [12] to languages of finitely varying functions or ‘‘signals’’. In particular, we introduce a natural class of automata for generating finitely varying functions called ST-NFA’s, and show that it coincides in terms of language definability with a natural monadic second-order logic interpreted over finitely varying functions Rabinovich (2002) [15]. We also identify a ‘‘counter-free’’ subclass of ST-NFA’s which characterise the first-order definable languages of finitely varying functions. Our proofs mainly factor through the classical results for word languages. These results have applications in automata characterisations for continuously interpreted real-time logics like Metric Temporal Logic (MTL) Chevalier et al. (2006, 2007) [6,7]. © 2009 Elsevier B.V. متن کاملCounter-Free Input-Determined Timed Automata
We identify a class of timed automata, which we call counter-free input-determined automata, which characterize the class of timed languages definable by several timed temporal logics in the literature, including MTL. We make use of this characterization to show that MTL+Past satisfies an “ultimate stability” property with respect to periodic sequences of timed words. Our results hold for both ...
متن کاملReasoning in Fuzzy Description Logics using Automata
Automata-based methods have been successfully employed to prove tight complexity bounds for reasoning in many classical logics, and in particular in Description Logics (DLs). Very recently, the ideas behind these automata-based approaches were adapted for reasoning also in fuzzy extensions of DLs, with semantics based either on finitely many truth degrees or the Gödel t-norm over the interval [...
متن کاملTruth Values and Connectives in Some Non-Classical Logics
The question as to whether the propositional logic of Heyting, which was a formalization of Brouwer's intuitionistic logic, is finitely many valued or not, was open for a while (the question was asked by Hahn). Kurt Gödel (1932) introduced an infinite decreasing chain of intermediate logics, which are known nowadays as Gödel logics, for showing that the intuitionistic logic is not finitely (man...
متن کاملOn the Satisfiability of Metric Temporal Logics over the Reals
We show that there is a satisfiability-preserving translation of QTL formulae interpreted over finitely variable behaviors into formulae of the CLTL-overclocks logic. The satisfiability of CLTL-over-clocks can be determined through a suitable encoding into the input logics of SMT solvers, so it constitutes an effective decision procedure for QTL. Although decision procedures for determining sat...
